Flowers in her hair - Floral clips for any budget

I've been completely enamored of flowers in the hair since... well, probably since the first time I saw Niecy Nash on Clean House many years ago. STOP THE FOOLISHNESS AND MAYHEM! She's just gorgeous and amazing and I frankly don't give a damn if they're too popular now or too "young"-- I think she sparked a fantastic trend. The look is sort of forties-pinup or sexy Spanish mamacita; I believe just about anyone can pull it off with almost as much panache!

Some of the most beautiful clips available are also astronomically priced, especially the larger handmade gorgeousness on Etsy. Thankfully there are still some stunning examples on the lower-end range. Check out my Treasury East of the best options from under $1 to $16:

There are hundreds of hair flower sellers, of course, at all different price ranges and levels of embellishment. I like variety, so I've purchased a good number of affordable, everyday accessories. I do, of course, like to daydream about owning some of my absolute favorites (if money were no issue; these are all $30+):

Mandizzle is featured frequently in treasuries and the front page-- due equally, I am sure, to her beautiful creations and... er... rather pleasing visage:

I just want to eat her right up. Yes, please.

EverydayFairytale designs by Gwen Paja are covet-worthy, from her jewelry and gorgeous ruffle-embellished tops to classic bridal hair accessories, which she models her gorgeous self, too:

WhichGoose carries clips, crowns, tiaras, combs and just about anything else a nontraditional bride could ever want. I particularly love the vine crowns and the ethereal photography:

I can't wait to see some new items from Perch52's shop (she assures me more are coming soon!) because this incredible velvet rose comb sold, rather tragically not to me, and I haven't seen anything else quite like it

Have you embraced this trend or are you over it? If you love it, do you stay inexpensive/ mass-produced with CVS and Old Navy cheapies, or have you bought handmade? Have you tried making your own? I've been experimenting a bit with combining different colors of silk flowers with complementary beads and feathers-- it's so much fun and fabulous for someone like me who loves matchy-matchy!

Some other good online resources are flowerclip.com (great selection but very much mass-produced, it seems) and amiclubwear. I get compliments on the grey feather fascinator I ordered from them every single time I wear it, and it was about $11.

Happy hair accessory shopping!

What We Wore: Fabulous Fuchsia

We have discussed this skirt before, and it remains one of our all-time most amazing scores: Calvin Klein, three tiers of silk, for under $10 at Filene's Basement. We gather that no one else has the cajones to rock hot pink crushed silk with frayed hem detail?

No clue where the sweater came from, but we love the scalloped neckline (we left our neck bare as we figured the detailing was enough). Boots, same as yesterday, under $30, Famous Footwear.

We're wearing two flower clips from Claire's, pink and purple, $2.99 each. Earrings and matching bracelet in dyed pink and purple jade by us complete the look, along with our most recent purple handbag purchase, Mondani New York brand, $28 at Off-Broadway Shoe.

Closeup of earrings and a hint of the pink & purple eyeshadow situation we have going on:

Ooh! and you can see the brocade coat discussed yesterday in more detail here, since the light on the bus is practically blinding. Yay!

Let us know what you think! Happy awesome-score-hunting!

Two via Polyvore: Probably Too Much Black

We know we wear "too much" black (although we're not entirely convinced that there's such a thing). We're not in New York City or Paris, we're aware. However... we love it so!

Today we regale you with tales-via-Polyvore of yesterday's and today's ensembles. Of course, we couldn't find a single exact match, but they are fairly faithful representations, anyway.

We told you about this hot pink skirt a while back. It's still one of our favorite statement pieces and it gets a lot of comments, for sure! Hooray for no one else being willing to risk a hot pink skirt, 'cause we scored it for about $10 on super clearance at Filene's Basement, and it's real silk and CK. Here's yesterday's outfit:

(In case you're wondering about the background, we're desperately lamenting our lack of beach visits so far this summer, that's all!)

We adore this Arden B cardigan shown, but ours is NOT as cute, sadly!

...And then, today is our first wearing of the "party skirt" mentioned in our MetroStyle clearance post recently... This satin bow-detail version captures the same flirty spirit. Our jewelry today is all by us and is at least similar to that shown... augh, we still promise we'll find a way to start taking awesome pictures soon! (Does anyone know if the Canon Powershot S5 IS works with a remote control? We're not so into this self-timer "run-for-it!" idea, and we don't see a remote listed in accessories, sadly.)

As we mentioned, we have decided we'll be wearing a flower in our hair as much as possible for the forseeable future. People seem to love it, too, especially the guys in the office. Our sweet Russian co-worker said "women are so lucky to have so little restriction in their dress." It's true, we are, don't you think? Another male colleague said "it just adds so much SUMMER!" Which we all need a little bit more of after this worst-weather-summer-EVAR, no?

We really shouldn't be wearing flip-flops to work... but sometimes you have a morning meeting offsite and forget you won't have time to grab pumps from under your desk and then just give up on changing since your boss has already seen you in the totally-inappropriate-footwear for several hours, right? Or maybe that's just us.

Hope you enjoy these little glimpses. Too much black and probably not very adventurous, but we enjoyed them anyway :)
